Literally translated as “flower-gathering,” Anthologia refers to both the physical collection of images and the resulting compilation of tales. Referencing objects and enchantments from Snow White’s sleeping curse and Sabriel’s bells to Jo March’s hair and the fire set by Bertha Mason, this exhibition explores the intersection of magical and mundane. Meticulously hand-cut shadow box collages and their wallpaper complements create the premises of new stories — daydreams transformed from carefully curated bits and pieces. Rooted in a lifelong love of fairytales and fantasy, Anthologia attempts to capture the expectancy and wonder of stepping into a story.
Read together, the artwork titles comprise the following poem:
Silver spoon and silver pool
Empty shell, unraveled spool
By sword and light
On paper wing
Her sisters’ hearts hear her plea
Fires blaze and hawk moths fly
Red fox runs, she cannot die
By spell and sleep
One pearly tear
Cuckoo calls the shattered mirror
